This website is dedicated to the analysis of the Bhāgavad-gītā text and to the commentaries to Gītā found in Indian tradition.
The reader will find here:
TEXT OF THE GĪTĀ prepared verse by verse:
in analysis – the verse rendered into a prose according to the Sanskrit syntax, detailed analysis of each word and textual variants from different manuscripts;
in translations – the chosen English translations of Bhāgavad-gītā;
in commentaries – the chief among Sanskrit commentaries in original.
In MANUSCRIPTS folder there are two scans of the Gītā: one complete with translation and commentary in Marathī (full description in Manuscript 1 folder) and with a few excerpts from Mahābhārata, which were found together in this manuscript. Each page of this scan is presented also with the appropriate verse in the analysis so the reader could have a look at the Devanagari version. The other scan is incomplete, described in Manuscript 2 folder. Both manuscripts can be downloaded in PDF format after clicking the open book icon.
A few recordings of the Gītā recitation can be found in AUDIO folder. The recordings are divided into Gītā chapters, not all are complete but give the listener opportunity to hear the different forms of incantation. To read the text and listen to it simultaneously one should open one of these in a new tab.
ABOUT THE PROJECT folder contains:
a few words of introduction about preparing the text for this website;
a list of English translations, their authors and date of publishing;
bibliographical data of the Sanskrit commentaries put on the website and of their English translations;
abbreviations used in the text (while moving the mouse over the grammar abbreviation, it is shown in full);
short scheme of Sanskrit grammar prepared according the rules of traditional Indian grammar schools.
Some of the presented material (chosen translations and commentaries) is available in PDF format in DOWNLOAD folder. Readers interested in the subject are invited to give their opinions on the FORUM.
