The authors of the most important and the oldest Sanskrit commentaries to the Gītā are: Śaṁkara (c 7th), Abhinava-gupta (Artha-saṁgraha, c 10th), Rāmānuja (c 11th), Madhva (c 12th), Nimbārka (c 13th), Śrīdhara Svāmin (Subodhinī, c 14th)[1].
Later significant commentaries were written by: Vallabha (c 15th), Madhusūdana Sarasvatī (Gūḍhārtha-dīpika, c 16th), Viśvanātha Cakravartin (Sārārtha-varṣiṇī, c 17th), Baladeva Vidyā-bhūṣaṇa (Gītā-bhūṣaṇa, c 18th).
